Research interests

In the Drosophila melanogaster system, I am investigating the intracellular calcium currents underlyling cellular oscillators, most prominently that of the cardiac pacemaker.  This involves looking at not just plasma membrane calcium channels and currents, but at the release and sequestration of calcium at the level of the sarcoplasmic reticulum and at the sodium/calcium exchanger.  The related oscillator that controls the male fly's mating song has proven informative, and we also are looking at this interesting process.  I use genetic, molecular and pharmacological tools in this investigation.
